BMW Case: 2 years for nanda

THE DELHI High Court on Monday (July 20), reduced the sentence of Sanjeev Nanda, convicted in the infamous BMW hit-and-run case, from five years to two years. This happened after the high court changed the section under which Nanda was convicted from Section 304 part II to Section 304 A of IPC.
In another important decision, the high court also asked the police to register a case against the controversial witness Sunil Kulkarni, whose testimony was mainly responsible for the conviction of Nanda in the trial court.
Sentences of Nanda's friend Rajiv Gupta was reduced from one year to six months whereas his two servants will now serve three months each, half of what they were awarded by the lower court.
Nanda was sentenced to five years imprisonment for killing six persons under his BMW car in 1999. His friend was convicted of helping in removing the evidences from the car along with his friends.
Challenging his conviction, Nanda had pleaded that he was convicted by the trial court under media pressure and believed on controversial witnesses.
